Toyota USA announced on June 5, 2024 that a new special edition model of the Corolla , the Corolla FX Special Edition, will be released in the fall of 2024. We have revived the name FX from the late 80’s.

About the USA Toyota Corolla FX Special Edition

This special edition is inspired by the 1987 Toyota Corolla FX16. However, unlike past RWD hot hatches, the latest FX is based on the FWD Corolla sedan, which is based on the mid-grade “SE” and adds a little sportiness.

The Toyota Corolla FX Special Edition features larger infotainment, 18-inch wheels, a rear spoiler, and a sportier chassis setup. It is also equipped with a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine.

Corolla FX special edition finished in black

On the exterior, the FX is distinguished by 18-inch alloy wheels finished in satin black and a new spoiler mounted on the tailgate. This special edition is offered in only three colors: Midnight Black Metallic, Ice Cap and Underground, with the roof, mirrors and badges always paired with a black finish. The FX also features the aggressive bumper found on Corolla’s SE and Nightshade trims.

Inside, there’s a new 10.5-inch infotainment touchscreen display mounted on the dashboard. This large display is standard on the FX and will be available on other trims of the 2025 Toyota Corolla. It also comes equipped with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless charging pad, and Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 ADAS suite.

The 2025 Toyota Corolla FX is equipped with a standard 2.0L 4-cylinder engine. Engine performance is the same as lower grades, producing 169hp (126kW / 171PS) and 205Nm of torque, combined with a CVT gearbox. However, Toyota has tweaked the chassis setup with a lowered suspension and different tuning of the electric power steering.

This special edition Corolla is for the United States, and there are no plans to release it in Japan. However, recently there has been a trend to include special edition cars released overseas as models for the Japanese market. There may be a possibility that a similar special edition car with black coordination will be introduced as a Japanese model someday.
