The latest Harrier sold by Toyota Motor Corporation is the fourth-generation model, which underwent a full model change on June 17, 2020. This new Harrier inherits the stylish SUV line, but adopts the new “TNGA” platform, and has appeared in a coupe style with an expanded overall length and width and a lower overall height. The powertrain is a 2.0L gasoline engine and a 2.5L hybrid engine, and is also equipped with the highly thermally efficient “Dynamic Force Engine” and “second-generation Toyota Safety Sense”. Harrier to undergo minor change in 2025?

There are rumors that Toyota Motor Corporation’s Harrier will undergo a minor change in 2025, about five years after the full model change in 2020. In 2022, improvements were made such as the addition of the Harrier PHEV and a larger display audio, but a full- scale minor change is expected in 2025. There are many areas where improvements are expected, such as changes to the exterior headlight and bumper design, a change in the position of the rear turn signals, and the addition of a map display function to the cockpit LCD display. The addition of special specification models is also expected.

As of June 14, 2024, there is no official information from Toyota Motor Corporation regarding the new Harrier model. However, a CG image of the next-generation Harrier, which will feature the new common design “Hammerhead,” has been created, and expectations are high for its evolution.

When will the new Harrier undergo its first minor change?

The current Harrier has been on sale since June 17, 2020, and it was initially expected that a minor change would be made in 2024, its fourth year, but the plan is now to make a minor change around 2025, rather than within 2024.

What kind of car is the 4th generation new Harrier? Introducing the differences before and after the minor change

The new Harrier uses the same TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) “TNGA-K platform” as the Camry and RAV4, and the overall length has increased by 15 mm and the overall width by 20 mm compared to the previous model due to the “low center of gravity” and “1.78 times increased body rigidity”. The overall height has been lowered by 30 mm and the wheelbase has been extended by 30 mm. This change has achieved a low and wide style. The current Harrier’s flowing turn signals are not adopted, and the “Moroccan hawk (flying in the air)” hawk emblem that was adopted in previous Harriers has been abolished and a new “Toyota emblem” is adopted. The shape of the headlights is sharper, with two L-shaped, DRL (daytime running light) “signature lamps” to emphasize individuality and advanced technology. “LED headlights (adaptive high beam system [AHS])” are adopted. A single letter design is adopted for the rear combination lamps, and it features an elegant and bold appearance.

The grade system has also been revamped, with three new grades, “S”, “G” and “Z”, replacing the previous “ELEGANCE”, “PREMIUM” and “PROGRESS”. The “Z” grade also comes with a genuine leather package. New equipment such as a photochromic glass moonroof and digital inner mirrors with front and rear dashcams are also noteworthy. For the exterior, the Toyota emblem has been adopted, and the previous Marsh Harrier emblem has been abolished.

The navigation display has been updated to 12.5 inches, and a new brown interior color has been added. In addition, a digital inner mirror that can record images in the front and rear directions has also been adopted. An “electric parking brake & hold” is adopted around the shift knob. The aluminum wheels are 18 inches for the “G” grade and 19 inches for the “Z” grade.

A minor change in 2022 saw the addition of the Harrier PHEV, the adoption of a 12.3-inch TFT full LCD digital meter , and the installation of the latest enhanced preventive safety package, “Toyota Safety Sense,” which includes “low-speed acceleration suppression function,” “detection of oncoming vehicles and pedestrians when turning right at intersections,” and “emergency steering avoidance support function.”

The S grade is the cheapest entry grade. If you choose the petrol S grade, you can purchase it for as little as 3,128,000 yen. The exterior is equipped with LED headlights and 17-inch wheels. The interior is made of fabric seats in one colour. (Leather is not always the best) The steering wheel is wrapped in genuine leather and the door trim is wrapped in synthetic leather, which is fantastic.

Harrier G grade

The G grade is a mid-range model that offers great value, and if you choose the gasoline-powered G grade, you can purchase it for as little as 3,529,000 yen. The exterior has a Harrier-like design with front and rear bumper chrome moldings and LED daytime running lamps, unlike the S grade headlights. Z grade features

Harrier Z grade

The Z grade is a high-end model, and some may find it a little expensive, but if you choose the gasoline Z grade, you can purchase it from 4,038,000 yen. It’s in the 4 million yen range. However, the exterior design uses 19-inch aluminum wheels with a super chrome metallic paint exclusive to the Z grade, and the rear spoiler has a long LED high-mounted stop lamp, so you can tell it’s a Z grade just by looking at it. The interior comes standard with a 12.3-inch full LCD meter and a 12.3-inch display audio + JBL premium sound system, and you can tell the difference if you’re riding in it. A little nice is the smart entry, but a smart entry (rear seat) that can be opened and closed by simply touching the knob on the rear seat has also been added. I chose the Z “Leather Package” grade, and unlocking the rear seat knob is convenient if you use it quite frequently.

Finally, a word from the editorial team

This minor change is attracting a lot of attention. It seems that the best way to go about it is to maintain the current design line while further polishing it. As a user, I am looking forward to seeing what changes will be made.
