Toyota’s new “Sienta” 2022 model full model change
Toyota has completely redesigned its compact minivan, the Sienta , and released it on August 23, 2022.
Adopts ” TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) ” and “GA-B platform.”
The new generation ” Inline 3-cylinder 1.5L Direct Injection Dynamic Force Engine M15A Type ” is equipped with a new, compact THS II. It is combined with a ” Direct Shift-CVT “ with a starting gear .
The hybrid model will also feature the E-Four (4WD) model . A new double wishbone rear suspension will be developed specifically for the 4WD model. The gasoline 4WD model will be discontinued.
It comes equipped with the second-generation Toyota Safety Sense , an advanced preventive safety technology .
It is equipped with an 8-inch or 10.5-inch display audio and supports “Apple CarPlay” and “Android Auto.” DCM in-car communication device is standard equipment.
It has an external power supply function that can supply up to about 5.5 days’ worth of electricity for an average household (optional on hybrid vehicles).
In developing the new Sienta, we aimed to further improve on the first-generation model’s “user-friendly interior space” while retaining its attractive features of “easy-to-handle No. 5 size,” “latest safety and security equipment,” “low fuel consumption,” and “affordable price.”
The new model has a larger interior space than the previous model, and the adoption of a newly developed platform has achieved excellent aerodynamic performance.
This platform has achieved significant improvements such as weight reduction, a lower center of gravity, and a 30% increase in body rigidity.
The suspension employs a MacPherson strut front suspension and a torsion beam coil spring rear suspension, and by setting the minimum turning radius at 5.0 m, smooth maneuvering is achieved on narrow roads and in parking lots.
This model is sure to be an evolution into a completely different vehicle, with more soundproofing and body composites making a huge difference to the ride quality.
Despite its size being a 5-number vehicle, it offers a spacious interior and luxurious specifications.
With an emphasis on maneuverability in daily life, the easy-to-handle 5-number size remains the same, but the overall height has been increased by 20 mm from the previous model, achieving a low floor ground clearance of 330 mm. In addition, the height of the power sliding door opening has been increased to 1200 mm, an increase of 60 mm from the previous model.
This makes it easier to get in and out of the vehicle. The floor is kept flat and step-free, allowing excellent access to the rear seats.
The height of the tailgate opening has been increased by 15 mm (compared to the previous model), and the luggage compartment height has been increased by 20 mm (compared to the previous model), making it easier to load and unload luggage.

Exterior Design
The Sienta has always been particular about the road conditions in Japan, and has maintained its size within the 5-digit number range. This policy remains unchanged for the new model, which also maintains the 5-digit number range. In recent years, there has been a trend for other vehicle models to have wider body sizes, but by maintaining the 5-digit number range in response to market needs, the Sienta offers maneuverability suited to Japanese road conditions.

Large interior space
By ensuring one of the largest distances between the front and rear seats among compact minivans, we have created a spacious interior that is large enough to fit a large shopping basket.
The interior height is 1,300 mm and there is ample headroom, creating an open and airy space.
We have taken into consideration ease of movement inside the vehicle, allowing passengers to move smoothly between the first and second rows, for example.
In addition, it comes with rear seat sunshades and ceramic dots (sliding door glass), and the Z grade comes standard with rear seat sunshades/ceramic dots.
The interior is fully equipped with the latest features
Inside, the meter is centrally positioned and comes with either an Optitron meter + large 7.0-inch TFT multi-information display (standard on the Z grade) or an analog meter + 4.2-inch TFT color multi-information display (standard on the GX).
The front seats are equipped with an 8-inch or 10.5-inch display audio and a T-Connect SD navigation system. It is also compatible with CarPlay and Android Auto and is equipped with a display audio. A DCM in-vehicle communication device is also standard equipment, and connected services are provided free of charge for the basic usage fee for five years.
In addition, “Nanoe X (manufacturer option)” is also adopted, which releases OH radicals containing fine particle ions from the vent on the driver’s seat side. The layout of the switches around the steering wheel and instrument panel is very easy to use.
Evolution through adoption of TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture)
The new Prius, released on December 9, 2015, is based on the newly developed GA-B platform, known as the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA), which allows for a larger interior space than the previous model. The new platform also achieves high aerodynamic performance, lowering the center of gravity and improving body rigidity, making it a major evolution from the previous model.
A word from the editorial department
All Toyota models are great, and the Sienta has many features, but I feel it’s a great value car that condenses Toyota’s technology to date. In particular, the safety features and adoption of a new engine are impeccable! This may be the symbol of Toyota’s “compact minivan.” If you want to experience driving and low fuel consumption that exceeds its class, you should definitely try the Sienta and feel its charm. In addition, the new Freed has also been announced, and since both are finally new models, future sales figures are of great interest. In the future, we can expect minor changes and the development of special edition vehicles.
