A word from the editorial department
The H200 series “Hiace” is a long-lived model that will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2024. When it comes to Japanese vans, they are a particularly popular model that is widely used for both business and personal use. Toyota is also considering a full model change, but considering safety, it will be difficult to change from a cab-over to a semi-bonnet. The cab-over structure has the advantage of reducing the engine room and being able to carry more luggage and passengers without increasing the overall length.
However, Toyota is developing the H300 series as a global strategic model for commercial vehicles. The cab-over type has the problem of being difficult to maintain overseas, but the semi-bonnet structure improves maintainability. In addition, the engine is placed under the driver’s seat, which reduces heat and noise issues.
