Toyota’s TOYOTA GAZOO Racing unveiled its racing-only concept car “GR GT3 Concept” for the first time in the world at Tokyo Auto Salon 2022. It is said that it will be commercially available, and is likely to attract attention as a new sports car. Now, following Toyota Europe, the company has applied for the “GR GT” to the Japanese Patent Office on March 12, 2024 (commercial application number 2024-025505 ). In June 2022, Toyota Europe’s “GR GT” patent image was released by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).

Will the “GR GT3 Concept” become a new sports car?

The “GR GT3 Concept” was announced at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon, and some rumors say that “the commercial model of the GR GT3 will be released under the Lexus brand.” It was reported that the car was being prepared for its racing debut in 2025, but it is now rumored that it will enter the WEC from 2026. It is said that development is progressing not only on race cars but also on commercial models, which is consistent with Toyota’s road car side, which follows Toyota’s philosophy of running cars grown in motorsports on public roads.

Is “GR GT” from the Lexus brand?

The commercial model is said to be released under the Lexus brand rather than the Toyota brand, and is said to be likely to be the successor to the current Lexus RC. The current “Lexus RC” has been on sale since October 23, 2014, and 10 years are about to pass, so the timing is perfect.
