Australia’s Toyota announced on February 1, 2024, an improved facelift of the new Hilux for the third consecutive year. This time, a powertrain “diesel 48V mild hybrid”, which is not introduced in the Japanese model, has been added.

About Toyota Australia’s new improved Hilux model

The 2024 Toyota Hilux model has the following changes.

  • style upgrade

    • Bumper design change
    • Adding a damper to the tailgate
  • Strengthening technical equipment

    • All grades are equipped with 2 front and 4 rear parking sensors.
    • Added 48V mild hybrid (Rogue, SR5, 4×4 SR grade)
    • Added dual-zone automatic air conditioning, smart entry/start, automatic power windows, and carpet floor mats (48V mild hybrid equipped vehicles)
    • Adds wireless charging pad and two rear USB-C ports (SR5, Rogue, GR Sport grades)

The Japanese and European versions look almost the same, but the Australian version’s front fascia has been changed.

The bumper has a more sculptural design and features a new octagonal grille. The grille is flanked by a revised intake and aluminum skid plates. The finish of the grille and bumper differs depending on the grade. The entry-level WorkMate has a black honeycomb mesh grille, the SR has a silver-colored lower bumper finish, and the SR5 has a black upper grille, dark-tinted LEDs, and gloss black accents.

The 2.8L 4-cylinder turbo diesel now has 48V mild hybrid technology. This is standard on Rogue and SR5 grades and optional on 4×4 SR grades. Vehicles equipped with 48V mild hybrid are equipped with dual-zone automatic air conditioning, smart entry/start, automatic power windows, and carpet floor mats. Higher-spec SR5, Rogue and GR Sport grades add a wireless charging pad and two rear USB-C ports.

About Toyota’s new model “Hilux Hybrid 48V” in Europe

Toyota in Europe announced on November 15, 2023 that it will add the Hilux Hybrid 48V, which is equipped with a mild hybrid diesel engine, to the new Hilux. It will be released in Europe in early 2024. We will tell you what the first Hilux hybrid is like.

New life has been breathed into the 8th generation Toyota Hilux, which underwent two facelifts in 2017 and 2020. The Hilux Hybrid 48V is equipped with the latest version of the 2.8L 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine. Equipped with a 48V mild hybrid system consisting of an electric motor/generator and a small battery pack. Toyota has not announced detailed powertrain specifications, but a previous press release from Toyota Australia announced that the mid-sized pickup’s fuel efficiency has improved by 10%. Electrification improves off-road performance through smooth acceleration and regenerative braking. The mild-hybrid pickup maintains the diesel-only previous model’s 3,500kg towing capacity and 1,000kg maximum payload.
