About the new Toyota “Rise”

The hybrid system uses ” e-SMART HYBRID .” Equipped with a newly developed 1.2L straight 3-cylinder engine (WA-VEX) + motor . This engine has a long stroke and a ” high tumble straight port ” that achieves highly efficient and fast combustion, achieving high thermal efficiency of up to 40%.  The engine is for power generation only . A series hybrid system is adopted that uses this electric power to run 100% by motor. WLCT mode fuel efficiency is astounding 28.0 km/L (2WD), compared to the 1.0L straight 3-cylinder turbo engine, WLCT mode fuel consumption is 18.6 km/L, so the fuel efficiency is perfect by installing a hybrid engine. Dew. Furthermore, he is capable of running in the 1.5L engine class. Set the driving mode ” Smart Pedal (S-PDL)”. Optimal placement of sound insulation and vibration damping materials throughout the body reduces road noise and wind noise. The gasoline model uses a newly developed 1.2L straight 3-cylinder engine (WA-VE) for 2WD, achieving low fuel consumption of 20.7km/L in WLTC mode , while the 4WD model uses the conventional 1.0L straight 3-cylinder turbo engine. was adopted. The top grade “Z” and hybrid vehicles are equipped with “ electric parking brake ” and “ auto brake hold .” The preventive safety function “Smart Assist” has been made standard on all models, and collision warning and collision avoidance support functions that enable the detection of pedestrians at night, as well as sign recognition functions (no entry/maximum speed/temporary stop) have been added.

Suzuki “FRONX” VS Toyota “Rise” body size comparison

Suzuki’s Fronx has a larger body size , with an overall length of ±0mm, an overall width of +70mm, and an overall height of -70mm. Yaris Cross has a wheelbase of -5mm. There is a big difference in overall width, and the overall height is correspondingly lower.

full width 1,765mm 1,695mm +70mm

Wheelbase 2,520mm 2,525mm -5mm
Minimum turning radius 4.9~5.0m 4.9~5.0m ±0m

Personally, I find the overall length less than 4,000mm and the width of 1,765mm to be unusual for Japanese cars, and I personally find it very attractive. The reason is that cars with an overall width of 1,695 mm or more look cooler, and cars with an overall length of less than 4,000 mm are easier to maneuver, and the minimum turning radius is the same for both cars, 4.9 to 5.0 m, so there are no problems with driving. It should be. Of course, it will be interesting to see if it will be accepted in Japan, as it has a full width that does not fit into the commonly talked about 5 number size. There is a tendency for people to be less conscious of vehicle width than in the past, and even popular cars such as the Prius and Yaris Cross do not fit into the 5-number size.

The starting price may be low. (In India, gasoline cars are priced from 746,500 Indian Rupees (approximately 1.34 million yen) and hybrid vehicles from 972,500 Indian rupees (approximately 1.74 million yen)) It feels cheap considering the body size and design. However, since the installed engine will inevitably be a mild hybrid or gasoline vehicle, the Rise’s Rise will be different from the e-SMART HYBRID.

A final word

The Rise is equipped with e-SMART HYBRID and has an excellent WLTC mode fuel efficiency of 28.0km/L, while the Fronx is a mild hybrid, so the fuel consumption is expected to be around 17km/L (the reason is that it has almost the same specs) Because the XBEE is 18.2km/L (2WD)). The WLTC mode fuel efficiency is 28.0km/L. However, the Fronx is not without its charm due to its spacious body size and design. Also , considering that Daihatsu’s fraud scandal will inevitably put a brake on sales in 2024, it seems like the Fronx or Toyota OEM cars will be able to be launched domestically at a very good time.
