Ranking of domestic cars with poor fuel efficiency
As of January 2024, the car model with poor fuel efficiency sold in Japan is the GT-R, which has a WLTC mode fuel economy of 7.8km/L. After all, sports cars, large SUVs, vans, and box cars have poor fuel efficiency. However, a while ago there were many cars with worse fuel efficiency, but these days I think that even cars with large displacement or heavy vehicle weight have not bad fuel efficiency.

19th place | mitsubishi | Delica D:5 | 12.6km/L |
20th place | Subaru | legacy outback | 13.0km/L |
Furthermore, with the recent full model changes of the Land Cruiser, LX, and Fairlady Z, the fuel efficiency of each model has improved, and one of the reasons is that there are now many models whose fuel efficiency is not as bad as in the past.
On the contrary, the Yaris, which ranks among the top fuel-efficient models, has a WLTC mode fuel efficiency of 36.0 km/L, which is incomparably different for a 5-seater passenger car. However, cars aren’t all about fuel efficiency. It is interesting that many of the cars with poor fuel efficiency mentioned above are popular models.
