This time, I purchased and signed a contract for the new 40 series Alphard and Vellfire, which were finally released on June 21, 2023, on the first day they were released, so I would like to summarize my impressions and points at that time.

Confused about which to choose between the new Alphard and Vellfire?

First of all, the most difficult thing to purchase was deciding whether to buy the new Alphard or Vellfire. The reason why I was worried about this is that I really liked the exterior of the previous late 30’s Alphard, so I was intent on purchasing a new Alphard as well as the new one, but I was actually looking forward to seeing the exterior. And hey! This is because I thought that the Vellfire’s design looked like a modern version of the late 30’s Alphard.

However, “Alphard” is of course also cool. In the end, we chose Alphard due to its name value, daylight, and good design with flowing turn signals ( sequential turn lamps) . (It still bothers me a little even after signing the contract)

The new Alphard has an adult-like calmness to it, so I think you’ll appreciate it once you get used to it. In the case of the “Alphard”, there is a little less plating decoration, but in the case of the “Executive Lounge”, the side skirts have plated decorations, but unfortunately the “Z” grade does not have them. I thought about the Modelista option, but I didn’t like it so I decided against it.

The new Alphard and Vellfire grades were simple and easy to choose.

There are three grades to choose from for the new Alphard: the top grade “Executive Lounge”, the intermediate grade “Z”, and the entry grade (Welcab) “G”. Furthermore, the 8-seater option has been abolished, and there is only one option for 7-seater seats! (The previous model had 8 types: “X”, “S”, “SC”, “SR”, “G”, “GF”, “SC”, “Executive Lounge”, and a choice of 7 or 8 seats) Grades of the new “Vellfire” There are two types to choose from: “Executive Lounge” and “Z Premium.” It’s simple so it was easier to choose than the previous model.

What engine do you recommend?

I recommend the “2.5 L inline 4-cylinder direct injection engine (Dynamic Force Engine) + motor THS II (hybrid)” model that I selected.

2.5 L inline 4-cylinder hybrid model Why we recommend it

It has better fuel efficiency and motor assist than the gasoline model, so you can enjoy more relaxed driving.

The engine and hybrid system are well-established and have already been used in many car models such as the RAV4, Harrier, Crown (crossover), and Camry .

Engine output and motor output have been increased to Alphard specifications.

When considered as a hybrid model, the drive system: 2WD can be selected.

The author is currently driving the 4th generation Harrier model with 2.5 L inline 4-cylinder direct injection engine (Dynamic Force Engine) + motor THS II (hybrid) , and the fuel efficiency is 17.1 km/L while driving without worrying about anything. Even considering the weight and size of the vehicle, it has impressive fuel efficiency. Furthermore, thanks to the motor assist, the car runs comfortably, and even if you imagine it in an Alphard, which has the weight and class of the car, you can be sure that you will not be dissatisfied with the fuel efficiency and driving performance.

The 2.5L inline 4-cylinder + Super CVT-i, which was popular in the previous generation Alphard and Vellfire, was carried over and continued to be used. It combines powerful and smooth acceleration from start-up with good fuel efficiency. It’s a shame because I would have liked the new engine to be adopted at the same time as the full model change.

The new Alphard and Vellfire have some of the latest safety technologies as options, so be careful not to miss any selections.

In particular, in the case of the most popular grade of the new Alphard, the “Z” grade, there are many things that are not standard equipment, so please be careful not to forget to select the options below.

Toyota Teammate Advanced Park + Parking Brake Support

“Executive Lounge” and “Z Premier” are standard equipment. All new Alphard models are equipped with the next-generation Toyota Safety Sense as standard . This alone is great as it has many functions, but even though it has a lot of safety equipment (Z is a manufacturer option), it is definitely worth adding this.

Advanced Park

After stopping next to the space you want to park, press the advanced park switch to confirm the parking location. Then, when you press the start switch, the vehicle completes parking by assisting with steering, accelerator, and brake operations while monitoring the surrounding area (shifting is manual).

Advanced Park (with remote function) Hybrid vehicle

Limited to hybrid vehicles, you can remotely park and exit the vehicle by operating a dedicated smartphone app from outside the vehicle. Those who want to do this will definitely choose a hybrid car.

digital inner mirror

“Executive Lounge” is standard equipment. “Z Premier”, “Z” and “G” are manufacturer options. If you carry a lot of people in the back seats or carry a lot of luggage in the luggage compartment, we recommend installing a digital interior mirror.

Universal steps (both sides)

“Executive Lounge”, “Z Premier”, “Z” and “G” are manufacturer options for all grades. We recommend installing this for people who carry elderly people or small children in the back seat.

Power side sunshade for rear seats

The moonroof’s shades are independent on the left and right sides, allowing each customer to simultaneously meet their individual wishes, such as wanting to see the sky or block out the sun. In addition, the side sunshade is a descending type, a first for Toyota.

priority list

There is a history of continuous purchases at dealers. (New sales may be refused)

You can trade in your current car.

Purchase plans, payment methods, and installment contracts are available. (KINTO/residual value setting plan)

I am asking the dealer for maintenance .

Priority based on car model/grade selection (some car models may have earlier delivery dates)

All of this can actually be said to be natural. “ Continuous purchase history at dealers ” This is the easiest to understand, but they are the most important customers for dealers who can make continuous sales, and they are the users who spend their money. “ You can trade in your current car. ” This also allows you to make a profit similar to what you can make on Toyota’s directly managed “used car market.” “ You can make a contract in installments (KINTO/residual value setting plan) ” This also generates interest compared to a lump sum of cash, so you can make a profit on the interest rate. ` `Maintenance at the dealer ” This also leads to profit for the dealer. In other words, no matter which option you consider, priority (points) are given to those who will be profitable for the retailer. You may need to keep this in mind when making your purchase.

Does the delivery date change depending on whether you choose “Alphard” or “Vellfire”?

According to the dealers I have checked, the number of Alphards and Vellfires scheduled to arrive is higher than the number of Alphards. However, I was told that if I wanted to get it quickly, I should choose Vellfire. After all, “Alphard” has a good reputation in terms of name value, so it is expected that popularity will be concentrated.

What surprised me the most was the trade-in price.

I drive the current 4th generation Harrier, and I was surprised at the trade-in price.I visited two certain used car shops beforehand and negotiated the deal, but compared to other shops, the trade-in price was 500,000 yen+. Furthermore, since the price was guaranteed until the car was delivered, there was no reason not to choose it, so this was the first time I traded it in at a dealer. If it’s easy and affordable, it’s hard to give up on Toyota cars.

Which engine should I choose? Thinking about purchasing the new Alphard/Vellfire full model change… Toyota plans to carry out a full model change (40 series) of the new Alphard and Vellfire on June 21, 2023. Let’s summarize what we know at the moment and which engine and gray…

summary

I did a lot of research and summarized the things I was concerned about when purchasing, but of course there are many things you won’t be dissatisfied with if you choose the highest grade “Executive Lounge”, but I’m sure there are many people who can’t afford it due to the price. So, many people choose the “Alphard” or “Z” grade, but I would like you to do some preparation before going into a business negotiation to avoid regretting it later if you forget to select one at the time of purchase. The author has installed almost all the options on the new Alphard grade “Z” so that there will be no regrets. I was told that the delivery time is unknown and that I should expect it to take a year.
