About Toyota new Alphard grade selection

There are two engines to choose from: a gasoline engine or a hybrid engine. Two engines will be adopted in the full model change of the Alphard and Vellfire , carrying over the 2.5L inline 4-cylinder + Super CVT-i that was well-received in the previous generation Alphard and Vellfire. It was continued to be adopted. This model is only available on the Alphard, achieving both powerful and smooth acceleration and fuel efficiency. Furthermore, the “ 2.5 L inline 4-cylinder direct injection engine (Dynamic Force Engine) + hybrid ” has been adopted as a hybrid vehicle in the “Alphard” and “Vellfire.” The newly developed “2.4L direct injection turbo engine D-4ST” will be used only in the “Vellfire.” In terms of differentiation, the Vellfire is a sportier model.

Until the new Toyota Alphard Hybrid pays for itself

This became a very troubling problem when considering fuel efficiency and price. When comparing both grade “Z”, the gasoline model costs 5,400,000 yen, and the hybrid model costs 6,200,000 yen, which is a difference of 800,000 yen . Furthermore, hybrid cars can receive a tax reduction of approximately 90,000 yen ( approximately 37,500 yen for environmental performance ) , resulting in a total difference of approximately 762,500 yen .

Here we will calculate the cost of gasoline, and we will examine how much you can save by driving to cover the gasoline cost of approximately 762,500 yen. Calculate realistically based on the actual fuel consumption listed above.

Fuel efficiency for gasoline vehicles (2WD) is calculated using WLCT mode fuel efficiency: 10.6km/L (8.5km/L).Fuel efficiency for hybrid vehicles (2WD) is calculated using WLCT mode fuel economy: 17.5-17.7km/L (14.0km/L).

Gasoline price 1L 165 yen

Gasoline model 10,000km=194,117 yen

Hybrid car 10,000km = 117,857 yen

There is a difference of 76,260 yen after driving 10,000km, so there is a difference of 381,300 yen after driving 50,000km. In other words, even with this, I can’t make up the difference in the price of the main unit of 762,500 yen…

Even if you are likely to sell your new car after 5 years or 100,000km, choosing a hybrid car will cost you an additional 100 yen. Just because it’s a hybrid car doesn’t mean it’s an easy choice. Furthermore, in the case of the Alphard, there is no difference in its exterior design from that of the hybrid, so it is not possible to look proud.

About Toyota new Alphard comfort

Up until now, we have been talking about money, but I would also like to talk about comfort. The “Inline 4-cylinder 2.5L engine + Super CVT-i” model is perfect in terms of price, but not in terms of comfort. The author has the experience of riding the 3rd generation Alphard’s gasoline 2.5L engine, and my impression is that it starts running very slowly. There isn’t enough torque for the weight of the car , and even if improved with the Super CVT-i, it will still feel slow. “In-line 4-cylinder 2.5L direct injection engine D-4S + motor (THS II)” is Toyota’s specialty hybrid system, and although the motor runs only at the start, torque is the motor’s specialty and it starts off very well. can be expected. Overseas models only use this hybrid engine specification. This proves that it is possible to drive internationally . Furthermore, when using “radar cruise control”, there is a high possibility that there will be a difference because electric control and hybrid are compatible. In terms of comfort and performance, we recommend a hybrid car .

Conclusion Summary

I personally recommend the “2.5 L inline 4-cylinder direct injection engine (Dynamic Force Engine) + motor THS II (hybrid)” model.

2.5 L inline 4-cylinder hybrid model Why we recommend it

It has better fuel efficiency and motor assist than the gasoline model, so you can enjoy more relaxed driving.

The engine and hybrid system are well-established and have already been used in many car models such as the RAV4, Harrier, Crown (crossover), and Camry .

Engine output and motor output have been increased to Alphard specifications.

When considered as a hybrid model, the drive system: 2WD can be selected.

The author is currently driving the 4th generation Harrier model with 2.5 L inline 4-cylinder direct injection engine (Dynamic Force Engine) + motor THS II (hybrid) , and the fuel efficiency is 17.1 km/L while driving without worrying about anything. Even considering the weight and size of the vehicle, it has impressive fuel efficiency. Furthermore, thanks to the motor assist, the car runs comfortably, and even if you imagine it in an Alphard, which has the weight and class of the car, you can be sure that you will not be dissatisfied with the fuel efficiency and driving performance.

Toyota new Alphard hybrid model considering resale value

The lowest grade of hybrid cars, Z, is not cheap at 6,200,000 yen. Gasoline grade “Z” starts from 5,400,000 yen, which is a difference of 800,000 yen. The gasoline grade continues to use the 2.5L inline 4-cylinder + Super CVT-i, which is probably the reason for the price difference. However, if you look at the specs, you’ll find that it has an attractive fuel efficiency (17.5-17.7km/L) comparable to that of an old compact car, and a maximum system output of 184w (250ps) with perfect driving performance. Considering resale value, a hybrid vehicle is definitely the choice.
