Toyota will fully remodel the new 4th generation Alphard and release it on June 21, 2023. I will buy a new model. So, after doing some research, I decided to summarize the parts that I thought were disappointing.

Points that I find disappointing about the new Alphard

The new Alphard has some of the latest safety technologies as options, so be careful not to miss any selections.

In particular, in the case of the most popular grade of the new Alphard, the “Z” grade, there are many things that are not standard equipment, so please be careful not to forget to select the options below.

Toyota Teammate Advanced Park + Parking Brake Support

“Executive Lounge” and “Z Premier” are standard equipment. All new Alphard models are equipped with the next-generation Toyota Safety Sense as standard . This alone is great as it has many functions, but even though it has a lot of safety equipment (Z is a manufacturer option), it is definitely worth adding this.

Advanced Park

After stopping next to the space you want to park, press the advanced park switch to confirm the parking location. Then, when you press the start switch, the vehicle completes parking by assisting with steering, accelerator, and brake operations while monitoring the surrounding area (shifting is manual).

Advanced Park (with remote function) Hybrid vehicle

Limited to hybrid vehicles, you can remotely park and exit the vehicle by operating a dedicated smartphone app from outside the vehicle. Those who want to do this will definitely choose a hybrid car.

Parking support brake (stationary object) [Intelligent clearance sonar]

When parking or driving at low speeds, when there is a risk of colliding with a stationary object such as a wall, when starting suddenly due to pressing the accelerator pedal incorrectly or too much, or when starting due to pressing the shift lever incorrectly, the sensor automatically adjusts the direction of travel. The system activates when a stationary object is detected, mitigating the collision and supporting collision damage reduction.

Rear cross traffic auto brake + front cross traffic alert

“Executive Lounge” and “Z Premier” are standard equipment. All new Alphard models are equipped with the next-generation Toyota Safety Sense as standard . This alone is great as it has many functions, but even though it has a lot of safety equipment (Z is a manufacturer option), it is definitely worth adding this.

Front Cross Traffic Alert (FCTA)

Detects vehicles approaching from the left and right, such as when entering an intersection. If the driver attempts to start even though a vehicle is approaching, a buzzer and display alert the driver. In addition, the color head-up display displays an animation of the direction in which the vehicle is approaching, providing a warning that is easy for the driver to notice.

Rear Cross Traffic Auto Brake (RCTA)

Detects blind spots when reversing and alerts you. If there is a risk of collision, the system automatically applies brake control to help reduce damage caused by collisions with approaching vehicles.

The new “Alphard” NA model is equipped with the old 2.5L inline 4-cylinder + Super CVT-i

The 2.5L inline 4-cylinder + Super CVT-i, which was popular in the previous generation Alphard and Vellfire, was carried over and continued to be used. It combines powerful and smooth acceleration from start-up with good fuel efficiency. It’s a shame because I would have liked the new engine to be adopted at the same time as the full model change.

The passenger seat of the new Alphard is not an ottoman.

The passenger seat of the new Alphard does not have an ottoman. Since it was adopted in the SC package of the 30 series, people who have their wives in the passenger seat need to be careful .

The shape of the shift knob of the new Alphard differs depending on the grade.

It wasn’t until I saw the actual car that I noticed that the shape of the shift knob for the “Z” and “Executive Lounge” grades was different. I purchased a “Z” hybrid car, but I feel a little disappointed. The new shift knobs used in the Prius and Crown are more stylish. It can’t be helped if it’s a model like the base grade, but the “Z” grade hybrid model costs 6.2 million yen, and the Vellfire “Z Premium” costs 6.9 million yen.In addition to various standard equipment, the shift knob has this latest shape. Isn’t “Z” also supposed to be this shift knob? I even feel a little angry. There will be no changes from now… I’m sure it will be unified when improvements are made.

The new Alphard body color is only available in 3 colors

The new Alphard only comes in three body colors. What I find very disappointing is that the only black color available is “Black <202>”, which is the most difficult to use. I would have liked to see the latest colors such as Precious Black Pearl <219> adopted.

Platinum White Pearl Mica <089>

Black <202>

Pleasure Leo Blonde <4Y7>

The new “Alphard” does not have a “Z Premium” grade setting

The new Vellfire, which will be released at the same time, has Z Premium, but the new Alphard does not. This made me think that although it is possible to have similar equipment by selecting more options, it would be okay to have similar grade settings as a package.

Premium Nappa leather executive power seats are not available for the Z grade of the new Alphard.

The new Vellfire, which will be released at the same time, has Z Premium, but the new Alphard does not. As a result, if you want to select a premium nappa leather executive power seat in the Alphard, that is, if you want to select a genuine leather seat, you have no choice but to select the top grade “Executive Lounge”.

Interior color “Sunset Brown” cannot be selected for the new “Alphard”

There are two basic interior colors, and the Vellfire is available in a special “Sunset Brown” grade. If you choose the interior color “Sunset Brown”, you will choose “Vellfire”.

summary

I have summarized the contents of various researches, and of course there are many points that you will not be dissatisfied with if you choose the highest grade “Executive Lounge”, but there must be many people who cannot afford it due to the price, so “Alphard” There are many people who choose the “Z” grade, but I would like them to do some preparation before going into a business negotiation to avoid regretting it later if they forget to select it at the time of purchase.

The engine model is equipped with a “ 2.5L inline 4-cylinder direct injection engine (Dynamic Force Engine) ” that achieves the same maximum thermal efficiency of over 40% as the new Camry . This engine is also used in the hybrid model, which uses a smaller, lighter hybrid system called “High Performance Multi-Stage THS II” to improve fuel efficiency. The interior of the new Alphard has significantly evolved.

The front seats feature the latest steering wheel and shift knob of the latest design, which is shared with the new Prius and Crown. The electric parking brake and hold button are very easy to press, and the charging position is very convenient, just by placing it next to the drink holder. It uses Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Equipped with DCM in-vehicle communication device as standard. (Executive Lounge is standard equipment)

Furthermore, the rear seats are equipped with a “twin dimming panoramic roof” and “LED roof color illumination” is also used, just like the previous generation. The rear seats of the top-of-the-line Executive Lounge are equipped with two central control touch panels that allow you to intuitively operate various comfort features such as seat recline and TV . “ Universal steps ” are installed on both sides (optional). Although the third row seat is a flip-up type, the two-stage mechanism allows for more movement in the second row than in the previous model, increasing the variety of seat arrangements.
