Nissan new Elgrand ProPilot (Pilot Drive 2.0) installed

Equipped with ProPilot (Pilot Drive 2.0). The system uses a combination of vehicle-mounted cameras, radar, sonar, GPS, and 3D high-definition map data (HD maps) to provide a 360-degree view of the vehicle’s surroundings and its precise location on the road. . Especially on highways, the complex movements of surrounding vehicles are understood in real time. Additionally, it is equipped with a driver monitor camera that constantly monitors whether the driver is looking ahead.

PROPILOT2

After setting the destination on the navigation system and merging onto the main highway, the navigation-linked route will start driving. The system assists the driver in reaching the highway exit along the route and allows hands-off in the same lane as long as the driver is paying attention to the road ahead. What is e-POWER?

The range extender EV system “Pure Drive e-Power” is a system that mounts a power generation engine with a range extender on an EV (electric vehicle) and charges the battery using the engine’s power generation and regenerative brake power generation. This system utilizes the EV technology cultivated with the Nissan Leaf, and is attracting attention as a device for extending the cruising range of EVs.

Range Extender: Cruising range extension device

A range extender is a device that extends the cruising distance of an electric vehicle (EV) by installing an engine dedicated to power generation. Unlike regular hybrid cars, the Range Extender EV uses only the motor to drive the vehicle, and the engine is only used to charge the battery.

This technology is attracting attention as a complementary measure as the cruising range of EVs is becoming an issue. By reducing the capacity of the battery, you can save space inside the car and also have the advantage of reducing battery costs.

e-POWER system

It uses a different engine and motor from the new  Note e-POWER and the new Serena e-POWER, and is equipped with a powerful motor that generates a maximum output of 200 ps, allowing you to enjoy driving like a sports car.

About rival car models

Rival  models Toyota Alphard and Vellfire underwent a full model change on June 21, 2023. The new model has recorded strong sales, so much so that it is said that there is no competing  model . However, the ProPILOT and e-POWER installed in the new  Elgrand are expected to improve fuel efficiency and autonomous driving technologies such as lane changing and danger avoidance. Therefore, the combination of these factors is expected to dramatically improve sales power and increase unit sales compared to the current model.

A word from the editorial department

While Toyota’s new Alphard and Vellfire models continue to sell well, Nissan’s new  Elgrand is attracting attention. This new  Elgrand uses innovative technologies such as ProPILOT, e-POWER, and EV, and focuses on autonomous driving and improved fuel efficiency. Nissan’s bold approach to incorporating new technology in a highly competitive market is admirable. Expectations are high for Nissan’s future trends. I’m looking forward to the release!

About Elgrand

  • Sales of the first generation E50 began on May 19, 1997. The motor series (Laurel sales company) was called “CARAVAN  ELGRAND ” , and the Prince series (Skyline sales company) was called “HOMY ELGRAND’  , and the car names were divided into minivan types.
  • Sales of the second generation E51 began on May 21, 2002. It is a long-selling model among domestic passenger cars. The biggest hurdle was converting the third model, the E52, to front-wheel drive, making development difficult and taking a long time.
  • 3rd generation E52 model Sales started on August 18, 2010. Through integration with the North American Quest and Presage, the drive system changed from FR to FF and 4WD (all mode 4X4) using the D platform, resulting in a lower floor and lower overall height, making the interior of the car wider and the ride easier.
